We’re almost at the end of the first week of school. We’ve had a great start to the school year, and with that said, we realize that there have been some hiccups with transportation. While I know we all have high expectations of what services should look like, I want to share a few things.
Our records indicate that 2,258 students have ridden the bus at some point during the school day these past four days. Since this is only the first week of school, students, as well as drivers, are adjusting and in the process of learning their routes. We continue to enroll a few new students a day. While this is great news, by adding new students to the routes that had been previously established, it causes yet another change to a route.
Also, since kindergartners are dropped off and released to a guardian, the drop off process takes a bit longer to complete. We have to take into consideration that there are young and new riders learning their stops. The drivers are also learning who is supposed to be riding a bus, who should get off where or which names to call out for a stop.
Know that we are in constant communication with Mid-Columbia Bus, and I appreciate the staff’s willingness to provide solutions when challenges arise. As a parent, I understand the frustration this may create. Please hang in there, we are working on improving our efficiencies. We appreciate your understanding.

Estamos casi terminando la primera semana de clases. Hemos tenido un buen comienzo al año escolar, y con eso dicho, sabemos que ha habido unos contratiempos con el transporte. Aunque sé que todos tenemos altas expectativas de como deberían ser los servicios, quiero compartir algunas cosas.
Nuestros archivos indican que 2,258 estudiantes han usado el autobús en algún punto de su día escolar estos cuatro días. Ya que es la primera semana de clases, los estudiantes, así como los conductores de autobuses, se están ajustando y están en el proceso de aprender sus rutas. Seguimos inscribiendo algunos nuevos estudiantes durante el día. Aunque son buenas noticias, al agregar nuevos estudiantes a las rutas que ya se han establecido, esto causa un cambio más a la ruta.
También ya que los estudiantes del kínder se llevan y se dejan con un tutor, el proceso para dejarlos toma tiempo para completar. Tenemos que tomar en consideración que hay estudiantes que toman el autobús que son pequeños y nuevos y están aprendiendo las paradas del autobús. Los conductores de autobuses también están aprendiendo quien debe irse en el autobús, cuáles son sus paradas o cuales nombres deben mencionar cuando llega a una parada.
Sepa que estamos en constante comunicación con Mid-Columbia Bus, y apreciamos la buena voluntad del personal al proveer soluciones para los desafíos que llegamos a enfrentar. Como padre, entiendo la frustración que esto puede causar. Por favor aguante, estamos tratando de mejorar nuestras eficiencias. Apreciamos su comprensión.
